ABSTRACT
El mosquito Aedes (Stegomyia) albopictus (Skuse, 1894) (Díptera: Culicidae), fue reportado por primera vez en Venezuela en el año 2009. Originaria del Sudeste Asiático, esta especie por su capacidad antropofílica y zoofílica está incriminada como vector de 21 arbovirosis, como los cuatro serotipos de dengue y fiebre amarilla. Este reporte confirma la presencia de Ae. albopictus por vez primera en la ciudad de Maracay, estado Aragua y la progresiva ocupación del ambiente urbano en recipientes diversos complicando el panorama de control del vector.
The mosquito Aedes (Stegomyia) albopictus (Skuse, 1894) (Diptera: Culicidae), was first reported in Venezuela for the year 2009. Native to Southeast Asia, this species of anthropophilic and zoophilic capacity is incriminated as a vector of 21 arboviruses, including all four serotypes of dengue and yellow fever. This report confirms the presence of Ae. albopictus for the first time in the city of Maracay, Aragua State and the progresive colonization of urban enviroment, which complicate the control strategies for this vector.
